Monthly super customer service shout-out: Red Barn Market

Red Barn Marketis a locally owned Victoria business that sources Island-raised, Island-made, and Island-grown products first. Red Barn Market was first opened in 2002, and the business has since grown into seven locations in the Greater Victoria area.

Think Red Barn Market and, in addition to thoughts of a great local grocery shop, images come to mind of fresh and flavourful custom sandwiches that are continually earning rave reviews. You can become the master creator of your individualized sandwich as you select from an abundance of choices sure to please any palate.

The bread used by Red Barn Market for its sandwiches hails from Portofino Bakery, and includes a gluten-free option, as well as a variety of wraps for the foundation of your masterpiece. Select a choice of meat—or perhaps a combination of meats or not meat at all—followed by a favourite variety of cheese, a sauce or perhaps even two, and complete your sandwich with an array of beautiful fresh vegetables. The result is a delectable sandwich which is commonly referred to as being “Tall as the Barn.”

If you do not have time to wait while your own unique creation is made, check out the “grab and go” section for a variety of freshly made sandwiches, wraps, and salads.

On a recent visit to the Red Barn Vanalman location, I was delighted to learn that Red Barn Market also offered a breakfast sandwich. Pick from a custom-made breakfast bun or bagel filled with perfectly cooked fresh eggs and Red Barn’s famous double-smoked bacon. Complement this with your choice of sauce and then have it grilled. This culminates in possibly the “best breakfast sandwich.”

I ordered two Red Barn Market breakfast bagels and one Red Barn Market wrap through the Red Barn app, which gave me a pick up time. After pick up, I checked the wrap and bagels to discover that the breakfast bagels had been prepared incorrectly: a sauce had been added that we had not requested. The wrap, however, was perfect. I telephoned to let them know about our order and the staff member who took the call was polite, understanding, and, without hesitation, offered to remake the sandwiches immediately. Twenty minutes later when I arrived back to the market, I was provided with two fresh Red Barn Market breakfast bagels and a new Red Barn wrap. I clarified that the wrap was not incorrect; however, they insisted I take it to enjoy with the breakfast bagels. I was also provided with a Red Barn Market gift card as an apology for the mix-up.

The professionalism I was shown made for a truly gratifying experience and demonstrated great customer service. I will be back for the sandwiches, the wraps, the breakfast bagels, and, of course, the famous Red Barn Market double-smoked bacon!
